Tabula Rasa
Everyone could use a blank slate once in awhile. There’s no way that we can function with a full bank of memories, regrets, moments of uncertainty, and changes. We are not who we were 1 minute ago. We are constantly in a fit of change – of self discovery – and we need to keep an open mind in order to allow new discoveries to anchor. But…If you are looking for self discovery, you are not going to find it. Clear and simple. You must stop wanting it in order to receive it. Buddhism specifically states that desire is where suffering is born. Once you stop looking for it, you will find it.

Sleep clears the conscious mind temporarily, which I guess is why we start a new day with new energy. But I’m not sure at all that we can erase our memory banks at will. Yes, we are constantly changing.. but it seems to me that we are always adding to what we have previously experienced… at least while our brain is in a healthy state.
The issue arises: If you want something, I think we have to work at getting it.. waiting for something to come to you, and not receiving, is as difficult as not getting what you strive for. I think there are times, however, when you have to make the choice to lay low and not run after things that are not right for you. Take a break, clear your mind in order to gain perspective. Don’t run after negativity – especially if it seems to satisfy an immediate desire. Consider your true long term needs, and guide yourself accordingly. THEN, it will come to you Grasshopper.
